13.1.- HYDROLOGIE ET HYDROGEOLOGIE

Hydrologie est la science qui étudie la distribution spatiale et temporelle et les propriétés de l'eau disponible dans l'atmosphère et dans la croûte terrestre (précipitations, ruissellement, humidité du sol, évapotranspiration, etc.) ). D'autre part, Hydrogéologie est la branche de l'hydrologie qui étudie les eaux souterraines.

Le mode de vie auquel nous nous sommes habitués dépend, dans une large mesure, de la disponibilité d'une quantité suffisante d'eau propre et bon marché et d'un système sûr d'évacuation des eaux usées.

Nature limite la quantité d'eau disponible pour l'usage humain. Bien qu'il y ait suffisamment d'eau sur la planète, elle n'est pas toujours au bon endroit et au bon moment. En outre, il est prouvé que des déchets chimiques mal éliminés dans le passé apparaissent maintenant dans les sources d'eau.

Nous sommes actuellement confrontés à une consommation très élevée, à des approvisionnements incertains et à une demande accrue de protection contre les inondations et la pollution. Les effets de la pénurie d'eau propre sur l'économie et la santé sont inquiétants. L'hydrologie s'est développée en tant que science en réponse au besoin de comprendre le système complexe de l'eau de la Terre et d'aider à résoudre les problèmes liés à l'eau.

De nos jours, hydrologie a un rôle très important dans la planification de l'utilisation des ressources hydrauliques. En outre, elle est devenue une partie fondamentale des projets d'ingénierie liés à l'approvisionnement en eau, à l'évacuation des eaux usées, au drainage, à la protection contre l'action des rivières et aux loisirs.
