INNOVATIVE SYSTEMS

The Computer Controlled Rainfall Simulator for Soil Erosion Studies, "RSESC", designed by EDIBON, allows to investigate and study the relationship between rainfall and erosion in different types of soils, to estimate soil loss and infiltration in storms of different intensities and to identify methods by which erosion can be prevented.

General Description

The Computer Controlled Rainfall Simulator for Soil Erosion Studies, "RSESC", consists of a metal frame that can be placed directly on the ground for direct studies or used with its different accessories for laboratory tests.

The entire frame is covered with a transparent curtain to prevent splashing.

The upper part supports the rain sprayer device which consists of a spray nozzle adjustable by means of a horizontal rotating disk controlled by a variable speed motor allowing to obtain variations in the intensities of the induced precipitation.

A water storage tank with a level switch is included from which a computer controlled pump and a regulating valve drive the water to the rain sprayer.

The water is metered through a flow sensor.

Depending on the opening of the rotating disk a certain amount of incoming water will be sprayed and the rest is recirculated back to the tank.

Different accessories such as rain gauges, different test plots, tilting stand, etc. are included.

This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + a Control Interface Box + a Data Acquisition Board + Computer Control, Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.

Exercises and guided practices

GUIDED PRACTICAL EXERCISES INCLUDED IN THE MANUAL

  1. Comparative analysis of different simulated rainstorms.
  2. Determine the kinetic energy of different rainfall intensities.
  3. Investigate the nature of soil erosion potential in different soil types.
  4. Study methods by which soil erosion can be prevented.
  5. Analyze the relationship between the erosion produced and the intensity of simulated rainfall.
  6. Estimate soil loss and infiltration in storms of different intensities.
  7. Sensors calibration.

MORE PRACTICAL EXERCISES TO BE DONE WITH THE UNIT

  1. Many students view results simultaneously. To view all results in real time in the classroom by means of a projector or an electronic whiteboard.
  2. Open Control, Multicontrol and Real Time Control. This unit allows intrinsically and/or extrinsically to change the span, gains, proportional, integral, derivative parameters, etc, in real time.
  3. The Computer Control System with SCADA allows a real industrial simulation.
  4. This unit is totally safe as uses mechanical, electrical/electronic, and software safety devices.
  5. This unit can be used for doing applied research.
  6. This unit can be used for giving training courses to Industries even to other Technical Education Institutions.
  7. Control of the RSESC unit process through the control interface box without the computer.
  8. Visualization of all the sensors values used in the RSESC unit process.
  9. By using PLC-PI additional 19 more exercises can be done.
  10. Several other exercises can be done and designed by the user.
