8.2.- MEASUREMENT

Metrology is the science that studies the measurement of magnitudes. It is based on the process that seeks to establish a relationship between a reference value and the object or phenomenon whose magnitude must be quantified and obtain an expression of the measurement.

The measurements must be reproducible and with the least possible uncertainty, they will have errors depending on the expertise of the technician or the precision of the instruments used. The values obtained in the measurement are attempted to be expressed in a standardized way in a system of units, for example the International System. The fields that require measurements are wide, from the social and health sciences to the purest and experimental sciences. At present, progress is being made in innovating and optimizing measuring instruments and their calibration.

We all have made at some point any kind of measurement, such as the tire pressure of our vehicle or the time a game lasts. There are many devices that allow you to measure fundamental magnitudes. For example, the flow rate of a fluid can be measured with a rotameter or a flow sensor, the pressure with which the fluid flows with a Bourdon gauge, the temperature of that fluid with a thermocouple, etc.
