6.1.- MECHATRONICS
Mechatronics is the area of engineering that includes mechanical engineering, electronic engineering and computer engineering. The main objective of mechatronics is the automation of machines. To achieve this objective the Automation Industry has developed electromechanical and computerized systems to have an optimal control of their industrial processes. Mathematical models to develop systems with desired behaviors are obtained with the control electronics.
View moreNowadays, mechatronics seeks to improve the mechanisms to obtain a controlled and autonomous operation, designing PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative Controller) control algorithms to perform feedback control and applying optimal control, predictive control and non-linear control techniques. All these control techniques are applied to the control of variables of temperature, flow, pressure, etc. using industrial instrumentation.
The continuous innovation and improvement of technology is leading mechatronics to the design of more complex and sophisticated mechanisms, with better features and a great control capacity. They can perform automated processes through pneumatic and electropneumatic actuation, obtaining quick and repetitive movements, or hydraulic or electrohydraulic actuation, obtaining large torques, precise and fast motion control through servomotor technology, and low cost industrial instrumentation, with great features and applicable in a new Industry 4.0.
