COMPUTER CONTROLLED REFRIGERATION CONTROL UNIT WITH SEVERAL COMPRESSORS - THALAC/1

General Description

The THALAC/1 has been designed to allow the students to understand the behaviour and characteristics of a heat pump (with air evaporator and water condenser) working in the steam compression cycle and with three compressors connected in parallel.

The refrigeration control unit with several compressors is basically composed of a refrigeration circuit. There is a water condenser, an air evaporator and three compressors located along it.

The low-grade heat source will be the air in the atmosphere. The heat generated by this unit is in form of hot water.

The work introduced is in form of electric energy supplied to the hermetic compressors.

This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + a Control Interface Box + a Data Acquisition Board + Computer Control, Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.

  1. Combined operation of compressors:
    1. Power measurement.
    2. Comparison of the energy for operating individual compressor and multiple compressors.
  1. Cyclic process on the p-h state diagram.
  2. Determination of the inlet power, heat produced and performance coefficient. Air as heat source.
  3. Preparation of performance curves of the unit with different inlet and outlet temperatures. Air as heat source.
  4. Lay out of the steam compression cycle in a diagram P-H and comparison with the ideal cycle. Air as heat source.
  5. Effect of refrigerant supercooling.
  6. Effect of the airflow rate on the condenser performance.
  7. Preparation of the performance curves of the unit based on the properties of the refrigerant and at different condensation and evaporation temperatures. Air as heat source.
  8. Energy balances.
  9. Temperature sensors calibration.
  10. Flow sensors calibration.
  11. Pressure sensors calibration.

MORE PRACTICAL EXERCISES TO BE DONE WITH THE UNIT

  1. Many students view results simultaneously. To view all results in real time in the classroom by means of a projector or an electronic whiteboard.
  2. Open Control, Multicontrol and Real Time Control. This unit allows intrinsically and/or extrinsically to change the span, gains, proportional, integral, derivative parameters, etc, in real time.
  3. The Computer Control System with SCADA and PID Control allow a real industrial simulation.
