The Bench Top Cooling Tower, "TTEB", designed by EDIBON, allows a detailed study of the evaporative cooling process in an open system with direct air-water contact. Thanks to its compact and versatile design, the equipment facilitates the understanding of the heat and mass transfer mechanisms involved in the operation of industrial cooling towers. Its construction makes it possible to reproduce, at laboratory scale, the behavior of real systems used for thermal dissipation in industrial processes, offering a high-value educational and research tool.

The equipment consists of a closed water circuit and an open air circuit, where the thermal exchange takes place. Hot water is pumped from a tank equipped with a heating element and level control to the top of the tower, where it is evenly distributed before descending through the cooling column. During this process, the water transfers heat to the air flowing in the opposite direction, cooling down before returning to the tank.

The tower includes an electronically controlled fan that allows precise adjustment of the air flow rate, and a pump that drives the water flow. The equipment is equipped with temperature sensors strategically located to monitor the thermal evolution of air and water throughout the process. This instrumentation enables accurate measurements that facilitate the calculation of mass and energy balances, as well as the analysis of the overall system efficiency.

The Bench Top Cooling Tower, "TTEB", is supplied with a type "B" column, suitable for the general study of the evaporative cooling process and the evaluation of thermal performance under controlled conditions.

To expand the experimental possibilities, different interchangeable columns with various packing densities can be incorporated, allowing the analysis of how the geometry and specific surface area of the packing material influence process performance and cooling capacity. In this way, the equipment offers great flexibility to compare the behavior of different tower configurations:

  • Optional Column type "A" for TTEB, which allows the study of cooling with low packing density and reduced contact surface.
  • Optional Column type "C" for TTEB, designed with medium packing density to analyze the influence of specific surface area on thermal efficiency.
  • Optional Column type "D" for TTEB, which enables advanced studies of heat and mass transfer behavior.
  • Optional Column type "E" for TTEB, intended for experiments with high packing density and increased exchange surface area.

Both at the top of the column and at the bottom inside the tank, hygrometers with wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperature sensors are installed, allowing evaluation of the air’s psychrometric conditions during the process.

The "TTEB" includes an electronic console equipped with connections for sensors, a digital display, control for the heating element, switches for the pump and the fan, and a fan speed regulator.
