Auxiliary services in a laboratory or industry are defined as the supplies necessary for the proper functioning of the equipment. The most common auxiliary services include: the supply of heat and cold, electrical energy, process and cooling water, steam, and compressed air.

Each of these services becomes essential depending on the activity to be carried out. For example, electrical power is needed to run a motor or activate a resistor, heat or cold supply to control the temperature, or compressed air to control pneumatic valves.

Process heat can be supplied through steam or a heat transfer fluid (water or oil) and is produced by electrical equipment (resistors) or boilers that burn fuel. Cooling is produced through a refrigeration cycle by utilizing the heat absorbed during the refrigerant's evaporation process. And compressed air can be obtained from cylinders where gases are stored at very high pressure or by using compressors.

The scientific sector of laboratory equipment would be unthinkable without these auxiliary services, which are essential for carrying out laboratory activities properly.
