ALLGEMEINE BESCHREIBUNG
The Radar Unit, "ERA", has been designed by EDIBON for the study of radar system operation and the understanding of detection and distance measurement principles.
This unit allows the practical analysis of high-frequency signal transmission and the reception of reflected echoes, facilitating the understanding of radar behavior under real conditions. Its use enables the study of parameters such as range, target direction, sensitivity control, echo suppression, and operating modes, making it suitable for both training and research.
The unit is composed of the following main elements:
- Unit interface: It constitutes the main element of the unit, integrating the display and the radar control system. It allows visualization of navigation data and the Position Plan Indicator (PPI), as well as configuration of operating parameters such as alarms, sensitivity, and interference suppression. It includes a battery with charger for outdoor use, status indicators, and connections for the radar antenna and GPS module.
- Radar antenna: It integrates a directional antenna, a microwave generator, and a microwave receiver. It features rotational movement for horizontal plane scanning and is connected to the interface unit through a cable that allows remote installation. It is mounted on an extensible tripod and must be placed in an open area for proper operation.
- GPS device: It provides information on position, altitude, speed, and time, complementing radar system data and enabling a more complete analysis of the measurements obtained.
- Extensible tripod: It allows the radar antenna to be fixed at an appropriate height and includes a level for proper installation on uneven surfaces.
- Mobile structure: It facilitates the transport and operation of the unit outdoors, allowing its use in different locations. It includes wheels suitable for movement over uneven terrain.
This design allows experimental practices to be carried out outdoors, analyzing the detection of static and moving objects, as well as the influence of environmental conditions on the radar signal, enabling a complete understanding of the operation of the radar system.
