Automatisierung ist der Einsatz von computergesteuerten und elektromechanischen Systemen bis hin zu Steuerungsmaschinen und industriellen Prozessen. In unmittelbarer Zukunft ist es das Ziel, das Konzept der Industrie 4.0 mit der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie (ICT) zu integrieren, um die Vorteile der IoT (Internet der Dinge) zu nutzen, Prozess Datenmanagement (Großdaten) und Wolkenspeicher (Wolke) für eine globale Vernetzung industrieller Produktionssysteme und Geräte.
