2.4.- ELETRÔNICA INDUSTRIAL

A eletrónica industrial é um ramo da engenharia eletrónica que se centra em sistemas electrónicos industriais, ou seja, equipamentos electrónicos utilizados na indústria. Um dos ramos mais importantes da eletrónica industrial é a eletrónica de potência, que se ocupa do desenvolvimento de aplicações electrónicas que controlam e regulam níveis elevados de tensões e correntes.

A evolução da eletrónica industrial, tal como a de todos os ramos da engenharia, é marcada pelos avanços científicos neste domínio. Os desenvolvimentos mais importantes da eletrónica de potência são os seguintes componentes semicondutores: rectificadores SCR, tirístores GTO e, sobretudo, transístores IGBT. Estes componentes semicondutores, combinados com um circuito de controlo central, são capazes de realizar tarefas vitais na indústria moderna, como o controlo de motores eléctricos, a alimentação controlada de equipamento industrial através da regulação da tensão e da corrente ou o desenvolvimento de inversores e rectificadores eléctricos.

A eletrónica industrial tem um longo caminho a percorrer devido ao desenvolvimento da eletrónica de potência e à melhoria dos sistemas de controlo, que têm custos de instalação cada vez mais baixos e são capazes de lidar com potências mais elevadas com controlos mais precisos, alargando a sua utilização no sistema elétrico (favorecendo a proliferação de novos esquemas do tipo smart grid e micro grid), no sistema de transportes (com comboios de alta velocidade, automóveis eléctricos e híbridos, motos eléctricas, etc.), nos sistemas de controlo da iluminação, etc. A incorporação destes últimos avanços da eletrónica industrial em todos estes sectores aumenta a eficiência energética e contribui para a redução da poluição e para a sustentabilidade dos sistemas que a incorporam.
