4.3.- MÁQUINAS ELÉTRICAS

Máquinas eléctricas são dispositivos capazes de transformar qualquer forma de energia em energia eléctrica e vice-versa. São classificados em três grandes grupos: geradores eléctricos, motores eléctricos e transformadores.

Geradores eléctricos transformar energia mecânica em energia eléctrica, enquanto que motores eléctricos transformar energia eléctrica em energia mecânica. Por sua vez, os motores eléctricos são classificados em motores eléctricos e motores CA. Ao contrário dos anteriores, os transformadores conservam o mesmo tipo de energia, transformando apenas os níveis de tensão. O funcionamento de máquinas eléctricas é baseado nos princípios do electromagnetismo.

O primeiro gerador electromecânico foi construído por Faraday com base no fenómeno indução electromagnéticaelectromecânico. Algum tempo mais tarde, Ampère desenvolveu o primeiro permanente gerador de imã. Mas foi Galileo Ferraris que deu o passo final com a descoberta do campo magnético rotante.

Um aspecto importante em máquinas eléctricas é o tipo de drive utilizado para as controlar. Actualmente, o uso de variávelaccionamentos de frequência e PLCs para o controlo avançado de motores de indução em gaiola de esquilo, servomotores, motores DC, etc. É muito frequente. O variável controlo de frequência permite um controlo preciso do binário e velocidade de rotação destas máquinas. Têm diferentes tipos de protecções, tais como sobrecorrente e protecção de sobrecarga. Além disso, variável frequency drives geralmente têm digital and sinais analógicos para a automação de diferentes processos em que o correspondente motor eléctrico participará. Mais económicos e simples são os arrancadores electrónicos para máquinas eléctricas. Este tipo de drive permite o arranque de um motor eléctrico de alta potência, reduzindo correntes transitórias de arranque. Outros mais convencionais drives, ainda utilizados pelo seu baixo custo, são manuais delta de arranque. O delta star-delta star reduz as correntes de arranque da motores de gaiola de esquilo, causando menos perturbações e desequilíbrios de translação na rede electrónica.
