4.- ELETRICIDADE

Eletricidade é uma fonte de energia secundária produzida pelo movimento e interacção entre positivo e negativo cargas eléctricas. A potência eléctrica é obtida de fontes de energia primária, tais como energia solar, energia hidroeléctrica, potência do vento, energia geotérmica, bomassa, óleo, gás natural ou carvão. Para a utilização destas energias centrais de produção de energia eléctrica, como centrais hidroeléctricas, centrais eólicas, centrais fotovoltaicas, centrais nucleares, centrais de ciclo combinado, etc., são necessárias.

Actualmente, a energia eléctrica é uma fonte essencial energética presente em muitas aplicações. Em casas e indústrias é utilizada para iluminação, sistemas anti-roubo, alarmes de incêndio, ar condicionado frio e quente, sistemas de domótica doméstica e de automação de edifícios, máquinas eléctricas, etc.

A potência eléctrica é produzida por sistemas eléctricos que garantem a sua disponibilidade. Todos os sistemas eléctricos são formados por centrais de geração de energia, linhas de transmissão de energia de alta tensão, centros de transformação, linhas de distribuição de média e baixa tensão e centro de controlo de electricidade, de onde o operador de rede gere e opera o transporte de energia e sistema de geração.

A strong evolução do sistema eléctrico abriu o caminho para Redes Inteligentes de Energia (Smart Grids). Estas são caracterizadas por descentralizadas>strong>geração de energia, onde energias renováveis, micro-redes, medidores inteligentes e avançados sistemas de protecção ganham relevância. O seu objectivo é manter a continuidade do fornecimento de electricidade, a sua fiabilidade, a sua eficiência energética e a redução das emissões de CO2.
