Descrição Geral
The Whirling of Shafts Unit, "MEER", has been designed by EDIBON for the experimental study of rotor dynamics and the vibration phenomena associated with rotating flexible shafts. The unit allows the analysis of critical speeds, resonance conditions, and different vibration modes, providing a practical understanding of concepts that are fundamental to the design and operation of rotating machinery.
The unit consists of a variable-speed electric motor that transmits motion to the test shaft through a flexible coupling. Rotational speed is adjusted from an electronic console and measured by a speed sensor, enabling the identification of resonance conditions and the determination of the shaft critical speeds.
Different shaft configurations can be established by means of fixed and articulated supports positioned along the shaft length. These arrangements allow the study of the influence of boundary conditions on natural frequencies and vibration modes. The unit also includes shafts with different diameters and concentrated masses, making it possible to investigate the effect of geometry and mass distribution on rotor dynamic behavior.
During operation, the various shaft vibration modes can be directly visualized, facilitating the practical understanding of oscillation and resonance phenomena. The unit also enables the study of Laval rotor behavior, including critical speed and self-centering effects, as well as the influence of concentrated masses on shaft critical speed. Its versatile design makes it suitable for both educational training and research activities related to rotor dynamics and mechanical vibrations.
