11.1.- OPERAÇÕES UNITÁRIAS

Operações de unidade são cada uma das mudanças físicas que ocorrem nos processos da indústria química. Surgem do estudo de diferentes processos químicos em que aparentemente é realizada uma operação diferente, mas têm a mesma base.

Estas operações podem ser divididas em três tipos:

  • Transferência de massa. Uma alteração na massa ou composição da matéria, que pode incluir uma alteração química. Estas operações são distilação, absorção, adsorção, extracção e intercâmbio de iões, em que a alteração é principalmente física.
  • Transferência de energia. Mudança de energia que, por exemplo, pode supor uma mudança de estado devido a uma mudança de pressão e/ou temperatura. Esta classificação inclui a evaporação, embora outras operações que combinam transferência de energia com transferência de massa (secagem, lyophilization, sublimação, crystallization e humidificação) também estão incluídas.
  • Transferência de múmen. Alteração das condições cinéticas da matéria. As operações que envolvem uma alteração cinética são filtração, sedimentação, flotação e centrifugação.

Todos eles se baseiam experimentalmente nas leis de conservação correspondentes.

Este tipo de operações é utilizado em múltiplas indústrias. São a base de uma vasta gama de processos de diferentes campos de aplicação, como por exemplo a indústria alimentar, a indústria energética, etc.
