As necessidades da sociedade actual são um desafio para qualquer indústria, uma vez que têm de ser em contínuo evolução e renovação para se adaptarem a essas necessidades.

Nos últimos anos, como resultado da nova revolução industrial ou Indústria 4. 0, a emergência da Internet Industrial das Coisas (IIoT) e da Fábricas de Arte, essa adaptação é possível graças à aplicação das técnicas mais sofisticadas na concepção de novas instalações ou na renovação das existentes.

A pesar de todos estes avanços tecnológicos e dos exaustivos controlos efectuados, não se debe esquecer que qualquer elemento que participe no processo produtivo será sujeito a um desgaste mecânico e eléctrico(esforços, cargas, etc.) e a sua vida útil é limitada. Para evitar falhas de dadostróficos, paragens na produção ou qualquer tipo de processo que implique um aumento de tempos não produtivos e, portanto, um aumento de custos, é extremamente importante realizar um bom manutenção de maquinaria, sistemas eléctricos, etc.

Tradicionalmente, apenas dois tipos de manutenção foram considerados:

  • Correcção: a falha é resolvida depois de já ter ocorrido.
  • Preventivo: revisão periódica de todos esses elementos problemáticos e sua substituição, se necessário.

Estes tipos de manutenção envolvem custos muito elevados e desnecessários na maioria dos casos. Hoje em dia, graças à disponível tecnologia, é possível efectuar previsão manutenção constituída por uma abrangente análise de todas as variáveis que intervêm em todos os componentes de um sistema e ser capaz de os substituir no momento certo.

Mas, se for preferível um maior controlo sobre as falhas que podem sofrer todos os componentes mecânicos sujeitos a desgaste, existe outro tipo de manutenção, conhecido como proactivo manutenção. Vai um passo além da manutenção predictiva, procurando a raiz do problema.
