5.- ENERGI

Energi adalah sumber daya alam yang diekstraksi dan ditransformasikan untuk penggunaan tertentu guna memenuhi kebutuhan jasa dan produksi barang masyarakat. Mengenai sumber energi primer ada energi terbarukan dan energi tak terbarukan.

Energi terbarukan adalah yang berasal dari sumber yang tidak ada habisnya atau sumber dengan kapasitas regenerasi. Energi terbarukan yang perlu diperhatikan adalah: energi surya fotovoltaik, energi panas matahari, tenaga angin, energi laut, energi panas bumi dan biofuel .

Energi tak terbarukan atau energi konvensional adalah energi yang berasal dari sumber terbatas yang ditemukan di alam dan, umumnya, menyebabkan dampak lingkungan yang besar. Yang paling umum adalah bahan bakar fosil seperti batu bara, minyak, dan gas alam. Dan sebaliknya, tenaga nuklir didapat dari fisi nuklir dan fusi .

Pembangkit listrik diperlukan untuk memperoleh listrik dari sumber energi primer ini. Beberapa contohnya adalah pembangkit listrik tenaga batu bara, pembangkit listrik siklus gabungan, pembangkit listrik tenaga nuklir, pembangkit listrik tenaga panas matahari, pembangkit listrik fotovoltaik, pembangkit listrik tenaga air, pembangkit listrik tenaga angin, dll.

Saat ini, energi tak terbarukan menjadi barang langka yang, bersama dengan pemanasan global, membuat konsep efisiensi energi semakin penting. Solusi teknologi yang semakin canggih dipelajari untuk mendapatkan efisiensi maksimum dalam pembangkit listrik, dalam sistem tenaga listrik untuk mengangkutnya, serta dalam konsumsi energi kontrol dan manajemen. Teknologi dan efisiensi energi berjalan seiring. Contohnya adalah perluasan jaringan pintar. Mulai dari pembangkit listrik dengan energi terbarukan dan transmisi listrik dan sistem distribusi hingga pengelolaan konsumsi energi hingga sistem pengukuran cerdas, seperti pengukur pintar.
