9.4.- PENDINGINAN

Pendinginan adalah proses termodinamika yang terdiri dari menurunkan atau mempertahankan suhu suatu ruangan atau benda. Prosesnya terletak pada pengambilan panas dari sumber dingin dan mentransfernya ke sumber panas. Cairan pendingin digunakan untuk mengangkut energi.

Sistem pendinginan yang paling luas adalah siklus pendinginan. Sistem ini mengikuti siklus kompresi klasik:

  • Kompresi: kompresor mengubah energi listrik menjadi panas dan mentransfernya menjadi fluida pendingin, yang menaikkan tekanan dan suhunya.
  • Kondensasi: refrigeran berubah dari bentuk gas menjadi cair dalam kondensor yang memberikan panas ke sumber panas.
  • Muai: cairan mengembang, diubah menjadi gas dan didinginkan.
  • Penguapan: panas diserap dari sumber dingin dan dipindahkan ke refrigeran.

Sistem pendingin penyerapan juga memanfaatkan penguapan refrigeran untuk menyerap panas tetapi tidak menggunakan kompresor. Dalam siklus ini, perbedaan tekanan dicapai dengan menambahkan panas ke dalam campuran refrigeran dan zat lain, biasanya air, yang menyerapnya. Pendingin biasanya adalah amonia atau litium bromida.

Sistem pendingin termoelektrik bekerja dengan efek Peltier. Pemanas Peltier adalah pompa panas solid-state yang mentransfer panas dari satu sisi perangkat ke sisi lain, melawan gradien suhu dengan mengonsumsi energi listrik.

Sistem pendingin Vortex adalah mesin pendingin yang paling sedikit tersebar luas karena kinerjanya yang rendah. Udara bertekanan dimasukkan secara tangensial ke dalam ruang pusaran, aliran udara dingin terbentuk di tengah pusaran, sementara lapisan luar dipanaskan. Udara dingin dikeluarkan dan dapat digunakan untuk tujuan pendinginan.

Sistem pendinginan ditemukan di penyimpanan dingin atau ruang pembekuan konvensional mana pun atau untuk aplikasi lain yang membutuhkan suhu rendah di tempat tertutup dalam lingkungan dengan suhu lebih tinggi.
