4.3.- MESIN LISTRIK

Mesin listrik adalah perangkat yang mampu mengubah segala bentuk energi menjadi energi listrik dan sebaliknya. Mereka diklasifikasikan ke dalam tiga kelompok utama: generator listrik, motor listrik dan transformator.

Generator listrik mengubah energi mekanik menjadi energi listrik, sedangkan motor listrik mengubah energi listrik menjadi energi mekanik. Selanjutnya, motor listrik diklasifikasikan menjadi motor DC dan motor AC. Tidak seperti yang sebelumnya, transformator menghemat jenis energi yang sama, hanya mengubah level tegangan. Pengoperasian mesin listrik didasarkan pada prinsip elektromagnetisme.

Generator elektromekanis pertama dibuat oleh Faraday berdasarkan fenomena induksi elektromagnetik. Beberapa waktu kemudian, Ampère mengembangkan generator magnet permanen yang pertama. Tetapi Galileo Ferraris-lah yang mengambil langkah terakhir dengan penemuan medan magnet berputar.

Starter bintang-delta mengurangi arus start dari motor sangkar-tupai, menyebabkan lebih sedikit gangguan dan ketidakseimbangan transien di jaringan listrik.
