6.3.- PLC COMPUMECHATRONICS

Computer mechatronics is the technology able to implement communication between machines and computers, enabling the control of processes based on real-time data, adjust parameters and act on production processes remotely.

The application of Computer Mechatronics in the current industry is based on real-time data acquisition to be processed or stored. Depending on the data collected, it is possible to carry out a supervision of a complete industrial process, applying sequential control by means of a programmable logic controller (PLC), or a modification of the operating parameters of a machine. All this continuous data collection allows for managing a production through a simple data analysis. One of the systems implemented in the industry when it comes to computer control is the SCADA system. The SCADA system offers automatic process control from a computer screen.

The continuous improvement of the industrial processes and the search for new forms of production organization are laying the foundations of the Industry 4.0 or smart factories. This industry seeks complete digitalization and automation, generating a regular flow of information and interconnecting all the elements of a process through the so-called IoT (Internet of Things). The need for process flexibility and manufacturing efficiency involves the development of computer-controlled autonomous factories.
