General Description

The Computer Controlled Drum Cell Filter, "PFTC", is a unit designed to observe the operation of a filtering drum that acts on a liquid with suspended solids. This drum cell filter allows investigate the filtration of multiple solutions with suspended solids and sludges of wide variety and composition.

Water with suspended solids is introduced in the system. A computer controlled pump impels the fluid towards the drum tank. A sensor measures the pressure of the fluid before being introduced into the tank.

There is a stirrer in this tank to keep water mixed with the suspended particles. The rotary drum is covered by a filtering cloth, so the part immersed in the tank filters the water. Thus, clean water passes through the cloth and the suspended particles remain in the drum surface. Therefore, when the drum rotates the layer of suspended particles becomes a cake and it is cut before entering the tank again. This tank has some level switches to keeps the water volume constant.

The cake is formed by applying vacuum on the inside of the drum by means of a computer controlled vacuum pump and a vacuum reservoir controlled by two solenoid valves.

When the cake is cut, it falls into a collecting tank and the filtered water passes into the vacuum tank.

The vacuum tank, feed tank and drum tank have valves for emptying when necessary.

This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + a Data Acquisition Board + Computer Control, Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.
