13.1.- HYDROLOGIE UND HYDROGEOLOGIE

Hydrologie ist die Wissenschaft, die die räumliche und zeitliche Verteilung und die Eigenschaften des in der Atmosphäre und in der Erdkruste verfügbaren Wassers (Niederschlag, Abfluss, Bodenfeuchte, Evapotranspiration usw.) untersucht. Auf der anderen Seite ist Hydrogeologie der Zweig der Hydrologie, der das Grundwasser untersucht.

Der Lebensstil, an den wir uns gewöhnt haben, hängt in hohem Maße von der Verfügbarkeit von ausreichend sauberem und billigem Wasser und einem sicheren Abwasserentsorgungssystem ab.

Natur begrenzt die für den menschlichen Gebrauch verfügbare Wassermenge. Obwohl es auf dem Planeten genügend Wasser gibt, ist es nicht immer am richtigen Ort und zur richtigen Zeit verfügbar. Darüber hinaus gibt es Hinweise darauf, dass Chemikalienabfälle in der Vergangenheit unsachgemäß entsorgt wurden, jetzt in Wasserquellen auftauchen.

Wir sehen uns derzeit einem sehr hohen Verbrauch, einer unsicheren Versorgung und einer erhöhten Nachfrage nach Schutz gegen Hochwasser und Verschmutzung gegenüber. Die Auswirkungen des Mangels an sauberem Wasser auf die Wirtschaft und die Gesundheit sind besorgniserregend. Die Hydrologie hat sich als Wissenschaft entwickelt als Antwort auf die Notwendigkeit, das komplexe Wassersystem der Erde zu verstehen und zur Lösung von Wasserproblemen beizutragen.

Heutzutage hat Hydrologie eine sehr wichtige Rolle bei der Planung der hydraulischen Ressourcen Nutzung. Außerdem ist sie zu einem grundlegenden Bestandteil der Ingenieurprojekte geworden, die sich auf Wasserversorgung, Abwasserentsorgung, Entwässerung, Schutz vor der Einwirkung von Flüssen und Erholung.
